Tutorial seven - assistive technology

Assitive technology (AT) - what is it?

Cook and Hussey 1995 describe AT as 1. the science or study of the practical or industrial arts. 2. applied science. 3. amethod, process etc. for handling a specific technical problem.

Dave from Kimiora school came in to give us an intro to all sorts of AT devices he uses for the children in his school that have severe disabilities. Check out kimora school on my side panel.

we also had a number of equipment from Star Educational - a service that is able to provide heaps of interesting AT devices!

I was particuarly interested in the Talking greeting cards -
Talking greeting cards that allow you to record and send your own personal voice message. Recording time: 10 seconds Record speech, music or any sound effect. Your recorded message will play as the card is opened. Message can be re-recorded as many times as you wish. Draw, paint or stick to create a special card for any occasion. A self-adhesive clear pocket is included - Option to add a photograph or artwork.
each talking card is $15

really good for those who don't remeber things - such as people with TBI

Also good for those who have difficulty communicating
